Truck Series season got underway at the Daytona
International Speedway, an “under-age” Justin Haley
was on the sidelines because he wasn’t old enough to
compete on a superspeedway.
When the Series moved on to Atlanta a week later, Haley
found himself with helmet in hand – and with a running
start to quickly gaining notoriety in the sport.
“I really wasn’t looking at the time,” Haley said. “But it’s
really fallen into place and I’m really happy with Kaulig. I’m
excited to be in another Chevrolet; it’s what I’ve done my
whole life. Hopefully we can jump in where Ryan Truex
left off and have a really good season.”
Haley became a hot commodity after showing tremendous
growth from his rookie season. He nished 12th in
points in 2017 with just three top-ve nishes, but he
demonstrated he was a fast learner by improving to three
wins, nine top-ves and 18 top-10s in just 23 starts two
years ago.
An eighth-place nish in the Championship 4 nale at the
Homestead-Miami Speedway led to a third-place nish in
points for the young prodigy and GMS Racing.
His rst NASCAR win came last June at the Gateway
Motorsports Park. He followed that up with victories on the
road course at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park and the
November Playoff race at Texas.
Haley nished in the top 10 in 14 of his nal 15 races
in 2018.
Matt Kaulig started his race team in 2016 as a way to
showcase his company, LeafFilter Gutter Protection, and
his other partners. The team has a technical alliance with
Richard Childress Racing.
In addition to winning the 2016 NASCAR K&N East Series
title at the age of 17, Haley also has two Quarter Midget
national Championships.
