In 2018, he took steps, albeit baby steps,
showing steady improvement with a
pair of top-ves, 17 top-10s and a
ninth-place points nish.
If the trend continues, Jones’ next
step could be into multiple Victory
Lanes in a season.
“I know the organization can win,
but for us as a team, that’s pretty
cool from what I came from last year
to where we are now and being in
contention just about every week to win
one of these races,” the Georgia native said.
And since he won’t turn 23 until two days after the
xnity Series season-opening Daytona 300 on Feb. 16,
he has plenty of time to nd better footing in the sport.
“There was a lot of nerve ow and emotion going through my
mind, but I saw it coming and I got pretty pumped,” Jones said
to NBC Sports after his rst victory at Daytona last year.
Car owner, Joe Gibbs, is willing to be patient, saying, “Our
NASCAR xnity Series program is so important to us at Joe Gibbs
Racing.” It’s why they have added a third full-time driver in 2020.
