Austin Cindric won his rst two races on road courses at Watkins Glen and Mid-Ohio
Sports Car Course, and he added three runner-up performances including two on ovals.
In 2020, Cindric has a great opportunity to beat his Round of 8 nish in 2019 with
three of the xnity Series’ best drivers graduating to the Cup Series in 2020.
Cindric was one of just four pole sitters to win that race in 2019 when he
nished a dominating weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. At 21
years old, he might be a budding star on the xnity Series.
In just three years and 67 races, the Columbus, Ohio native
already has seven poles. His most recent nish is sixth in points.
It was inevitable that Austin Cindric’s career path would be in
motorsports – and at Team Penske – given that his father, Tim
Cindric, is the team president. But so much for the choice of a
route. The manner of its traverse has been solely in the young
driver’s hands, and it’s been spectacular.
With only six previous starts entering the 2017 season, and a best
nish of 14th, the 20-year-old nished eighth in points last year while
splitting time between Team Penske and Roush Fenway Racing with
seven top-ve nishes and 13 top-10s.
By his second season at 2018, he had just one allegiance.
“I have had such a unique opportunity this year to learn from so many people, and
to learn quite a lot in a short amount of time,” Cindric said. “To have the chance to
apply that experience for a full season with Team Penske in 2019 is a huge step
in my career. I am so grateful for the condence Mr. Penske, the 22 team, Ford
Performance, Team Penske and all of their partners have put in me. I can’t wait to see
what we’ll be able to accomplish together.”
As an 18-year-old rookie in 2017, Cindric not only qualied for the NASCAR
GANDER RV & OUTDOORS Truck Series post-season, but he raced all the way
to the Championship 4 at Homestead-Miami Speedway – the youngest competitor
to do so.
