John H. Nemechek, driver of the No. 23 Chevrolet car signed with GMS Racing,
hoped that 2019 would yield more victories after his rst career xnity Series win
a year prior. He even got to start in three NASCAR Cup Seriesraces toward the
end of the season.
Nemechek would nish the 2019 season seventh in points
after nishing sixth at Homestead. Front Row Motorsports
will run Nemechek in the No. 38 Ford in 2020.
John Hunter Nemechek was 7 years old when his father,
Joe Nemechek, swept weekend races in what’s now
the xnity Series and the NASCAR Cup Series at
Kansas Speedway.
Fourteen years later, the son paved his own way to the
winner’s circle by winning his rst xnity Series race
for Chip Ganassi Racing.
The signicance of that victory was far more
important than continuing a family tradition. It helped
make him the favorite to replace Spencer Gallagher
at GMS Racing for the upcoming season.
“When he won, I was a kid playing on the playground
for both days,” John Hunter said after that landmark
victory. “I remember mom coming to grab me saying
‘Dad won! Dad won! Let’s go to Victory Lane. I saw a
video of that this week, actually, and it was pretty cool
to see how young I was.”
The now-22-year-old driver nally will have certainty
in his young career. He’s been behind the wheel of his
father’s NEMCO Motorsports NASCAR GANDER RV
