To his credit, he wasted little time making
2019 a better season with a seasonopening
win at Daytona and ve
top-10s in his rst seven races.
His season ended with consistent
driving, but getting over the mountain
proved difcult as he nished with
an 11th, 9th and 11th place nish at
Texas, Phoenix and Homestead.
The fact JR Motorsports has won the
xnity Championship in four of the past six
years only has to add to Annett’s excitement
“It’s encouraging and frustrating,” Annett said
of comparing his nishes to his teammates. “We
wanted to start at Daytona right where they teammates
ended up. We’re still playing catch up. We have our work
to do, but JR Motorsports has a big notebook that we can go to
and that’s what we’ve been doing more and more of, and we’re
denitely starting to see improvements.”
Four crashes and a pair of mechanical failures were part of him
nishing outside the top 20 in seven of 33 races in his 2018
season. That prompted him to admit: “We’ve just got to start
knocking off top-10’s. I’m very frustrated with 12th and 14th, when
we know we have the equipment capable of getting ourselves in
the top 10. We look forward to each weekend to right the ship.”

Now, his win at Daytona gives Annett a high-water mark to be
duplicated, an effort to show consistency and a foundation to
put him deeper into Playoff runs.
Annett didn’t start racing until he was 21. He started in the
American Speed Association and eventually made 10 starts in
a three-year stretch in the ARCA Racing Series. He won the
pole position at Iowa in 2007 at his very rst ARCA race and
he won at Talladega in his fourth, and nal, start of that year. In
2008, he opened the year by winning the ARCA season-opener
at the Daytona International Speedway.
