On January 25, 2019, it was announced that Michael Annett would drive the No. 1
Chevrolet full-time, and Annett quickly rewarded everyone’s trust.
His rst career victory came at Daytona in the NASCAR Racing Experience 300.
His 2019 got off to a much faster start than 2018, and Annett’s
biggest improvement might have been in his synergy with crew
chief, Travis Mack.
Over nine seasons and 262 races, Annett has 63 top-10s,
one win and one pole.
Michael Annett clearly wasn’t happy about his
team’s performance in 2018, but the people
who mattered most – car owners Dale Earnhardt
and Kelley Earnhardt Miller – never lost faith and
rewarded him with a new contract to stay at
JR Motorsports.
The 33-year-old driver came back to a team that
combined for seven wins and the NASCAR xnity Series
Championship with Tyler Reddick. He had a new number
– 1 – and a familiar sponsorship – Pilot Flying J – on his
Chevrolet Camaro SS.
“I have tremendous support with the No. 1 team, my
teammates and the entire staff over there,” Annett said before his
2019 season. “It’s very much a family atmosphere and they have
everything it takes to be successful at this level.”
He has shown ashes of improvement. As a full-time driver, he nished in
the top 10 in points four times – in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2017.
By comparison, 2018 was a letdown.
He only had three top-10 nishes. Oddly enough, two came at two of the
toughest racetracks – Bristol (7th place) and Darlington (10th).
