LAIN
MURRELL
For this month’s Employee Spotlight, we wanted to direct a little
attention on the amazing talent behind our beautiful All Access books,
as well as most of Anita Goodesign’s collection looks and graphics.
If you are currently holding this copy of our All Access,
or any issue from the past couple of years, then you are
experiencing firsthand the beautiful work of one of Anita
Goodesign’s most talented employees! For this month’s
Employee Spotlight, we wanted to direct a little attention on the
amazing talent behind our beautiful All Access books, as well
as most of Anita Goodesign’s collection looks and graphics.
Elaine Murrell, or Lain for short, has been with Anita Goodesign’s
graphics team since spring of 2016, and since then, our
publications have only gotten increasingly more beautiful in
design and format with her influence. Hired on as a junior
graphic designer under our Art Director, Carol Lantis, Lain has
undoubtedly influenced the company’s overall look and design
in the best ways possible. Carol recently reminisced on her
start with our team, commenting, “From the beginning, Lain has
shown just how creative and resourceful of a designer she is. She
is super organized and goes above and beyond to make sure
that all the graphic materials that come out of Anita are cohesive,
crafted with excellence, and simply beautiful in design. You
see her mark the strongest all across the fresh looks of our All
Access magazines. Lain has developed the clean, modern-yetrelatable,
and super fun look you see across every page of All
Access, making it a joy to read and re-read. The work she does
also reflects her as a person: caring, excellent, and just plain fun.”
In spite of constant deadlines and new looks to develop for the
books, we had a moment to ask Lain a bit about her experience
as a designer, both with Anita Goodesign as well as her time
outside of the office.
What first sparked your interest in graphic design work? Art
has always been a focal point of my life. Even from a young age
I loved to color and draw, and that is something that my parents,
especially my mother, encouraged. When I was in junior high, I
met a friend that also loved to draw, and we ended up creating
and coding a website together that we made all of the graphics
and images for. That was my first foray into graphic design. I
actually had every intention of pursuing journalism when I went
to college, but it was my father that reminded me of my passion
for art and design and pushed me to pursue a career in design.
What hobbies do you enjoy outside of work? I find that a lot of
people in an artistic career also have other creative hobbies. I
definitely fall into that category. I sew, hand-stitch, paint, photograph
and do freelance design outside of work. For the last few years,
I’ve painted custom watercolor portraits of people’s pets as a
fun side hustle. I love learning about people’s furry counterparts
and figuring out how to best capture their unique personalities.
