CREATING A REVERSE CUTWORK BLOCK
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
A B
Take a piece of base fabric and place it right side up over
the placement stitches, being sure to have enough fabric for
a 1⁄2” seam allowance on all sides.
To begin, hoop two pieces of wash away or water soluble
stabilizer to fit your hoop. With the block of your choice
loaded, run the first step, which will be a placement stitch for
the base fabric.
C D
Run the tacking stitch for the base fabric in a coordinating
thread color.
Continue to run the stippling stitches for your base fabric in a
matching thread color.
E F
Now, run the cutwork marking stitches to outline the areas
that will feature the reverse cutwork.
Using a pair of appliqué scissors, trim away the base fabric
from within the marking stitches. Take extra care to not
puncture the stabilizer, cutting only the fabric within the
marking stitches.
