FABRIC
The nocturnal tendencies of these
insects inspired us to use a dreamy
and elegant navy silk for the quilt
block’s base fabric while keeping the
moths the center of attention with pops
of color. Since the moths are finished
with a raw edge, we were sure to use a
non-fraying fabric like felt and cork.
THREADS
For the quilt blocks, we chose a thread
color a few shades lighter than the
base fabric. While some moths have
thread that match their realistic colors,
we made sure to tie in navy here and
there to make them coordinate subtly
with the quilt blocks.
NOTIONS
Especially when cutting a raw edge
appliqué, it is best to keep a sharp pair
of scissors around. Also, it’s much more
efficient to use a rotary cutter and ruler
to square off your finished quilt blocks.
