Since the T-Shirts we used
are soft, and various colors;
we selected dark denim and
a light blue-grey jersey blend.
These fabrics add different
texture to the quilt, as well as
complement the overall design
with their neutral colors. Don’t
be afraid to experiment with
different fabrics as sashing, it
makes the quilt unique!
SIZE MATTERS
Consider the t-shirt design size
when determining the size of
each individual block. Larger
shirts or designs will require
more space to be seen. Most
T-Shirt quilts will have blocks
of different sizes, based on the
original size of the shirt and its
graphics.
CREATE A
LAYOUT
To create our quilt top layout,
we first determined what we
wanted the finished size to be.
Then we divided the layout
into columns instead of rows,
because the shirt blocks are
different sized. We added
sashing as needed to fill in any
spaces within each column.
PLAN IT OUT
It is important to decide the
orientation and the placement
of the blocks before beginning,
since the base fabric for each
one is unique and cannot
easily be duplicated if a
mistake is made. Taking these
tips into consideration will
ensure your T-Shirt Memory
Quilt is a beautiful and unique
treasure for years to come.
BEFORE
YOU
BEGIN
CREATING
SASHING
Because of the variations
in block size, sometimes
adjustments need to be
made within the sashing in
order to square up the quilt to
an even size.
