The next step in the design will vary from block to block whether
it starts with standard appliqué or folded fabric, so reference the
machine steps for the design you choose. For this block, the next
step is a placement stitch for standard appliqué.

The machine will now tack down your folded fabric. Be sure to
choose a matching thread to avoid visible seams when finishing
your quilt later.

Your appliqué will look something like this once trimmed.
Place your first standard appliqué fabric right side up and
covering the placement stitches completely. Remember to leave
at least a 1⁄2” of fabric extending outside of the batting to act as
your seam allowance!
Use scissors to trim away the excess fabric from within the block,
leaving any fabric extending past the batting as your seam
allowance.
Now, run the placement stitch for the first piece of folded fabric.
