FINISHING THE QUILT
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Cut a large piece of batting and a large piece of back fabric, that
each measure the size of your quilt top plus an additional 2-4” on
all sides.
Proceed to stitch in the ditch for all the blocks using clear or
matching thread. This will attach all the quilt top, batting, and back
fabric.
Place the back fabric on bottom, the batting next, and the
quilt top face up on top. To prevent shifting, use pins or spray
adhesive to secure the layers together until sewn.
Once the layers are sewn together, use a rotary cutter and ruler
to trim the excess batting and back fabric to meet the raw edges
of the quilt top.
To add binding, you will need to cut fabric strips measuring 21⁄2”
wide by the perimeter of your quilt plus a few additional inches.
For binding, we used the same denim fabric as the sashing.
Starting along the bottom edge about halfway, place the binding
face down along the quilt’s edge. Fold the corner of the binding
back to make a triangle, this will create your stop/start point. Pin
the binding along the edge of the quilt.
