CHOOSING
COLORS FOR YOUR
SHADOW WORK
For our quilt we used white base fabric
accentuated with bright and bold fabrics
and threads. These color-intensive portions
of the design will be covered with a layer
of sheer fabric, which gives a warm muted
effect. This quilt features an under layer of
bright, colored blocked shapes and then
is topped with elegant linework florals. We
stitched the flowers and greenery in dark

thread to create more contrast.
FABRICS
Charm packs or bundles of coordinated
solids in bright and bold shades will give
the best finished look--think jewel tones or
summer brights! You will also need some
sheer organza for the “shadowing” layer.
THREADS
Rich thread colors are the key to creating this
unique twist on shadow work! Don’t be afraid
to be colorful for this quilt. We opted for a mix
of bold and bright Floriani threads.
NOTIONS
Like with the rest of our quilting collections,
you will need no show mesh stabilizer,
batting, and a pair of appliqué scissors.
