Occupations
How to Target Opportunities
Listed below are descriptions of targeting factors and how to explore each.
1. Occupations describe the work you do – the job functions you perform.
You can easily and quickly search the database of almost 1,000
occupations in The Occupational Information Network (O*NET),
America’s primary source of occupational information.
Visit www.onetonline.org. Select keywords and phrases from Summarize Your
Best on page 44 and go exploring. Each occupation is described by worker
abilities, interests, styles, values, skills, knowledge, education, experience,
training, as well as job activities/tasks, position titles/descriptions, salaries/
wages, and tools/technology with links to major associations and similar
occupations.
