Present yourself
interview. If offered something to drink, politely decline. Be nice to everyone.
Look around the waiting room. Browse displayed company literature. Stand
while you wait, remembering that you are seeking to serve as God gives you
the opportunity. Silently pray that the Holy Spirit will teach you what to say
during the interview.
Greet the interviewer
Let the interviewer take the lead.
Most interviews have three parts, but not always in this order…
1. Interviewer describes the job. If you brought a copy of the job posting and/
or description, ask if you may pull it from your folder and take notes. Seek
to understand not only responsibilities, duties and activities, but also what
needs to be accomplished.
Ask about the organizational structure around the job. If you are
interviewing with the direct report for the job, ask about their job and
their background. If you are not interviewing with the direct report, ask the
interviewer about the position and person to whom the position reports.
Repeat important points to be sure you heard correctly. Ask about
opportunities in which to contribute and grow. You can also ask what
they are looking for in a successful candidate. State your appreciation
for the information offered to you.
