Connect Personally
Building relationships and getting personal referrals are the most effective
value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests
but each of you to the interests of the others
Step Five Searching 68
Philippians 2:3-4 NIV
Here are two reasons to connect personally with others:
1. . Before
advertising job openings, most employers network for candidates through
market by connecting with others.
2. Personally referred candidates are 42 times more likely to be hired,
according to a private corporate study. Referred candidates are more likely
to be favorably received because of the positive reputation of the person
making the referral, as well as the higher likelihood of matching personal
values with corporate culture.
Prepare to connect and build community…
• Seek to serve everyone you meet.
• Be clear about who needs most what you do best.
• Know the jobs for which you want to interview.
• Research employers for which you want to work.
• Write a bullet-point script of what you are going to say.
• Identify hiring managers by position title and ideally by name.
Prepare before you reach out. Learn something about each contact before
connecting. Write out points you want to make. Start your communication with
the name of whoever referred you. Know what you need to know. Always be
prayerful, intentional and alert.
