Take the time and make the effort to meet and greet three groups of people
who can help you connect personally…
1. Job Support and Networking Groups
Many church, community, and professional groups have regular meetings
that offer opportunities to connect. Be sure to take networking cards and
resumes, as well as your networking list and notepad. Find groups on
crossroadscareer.org/locations or search local newspaper sites.
2. American Job Centers
More than 2,000 American Job Centers cover every county in the United States.
Funded primarily by the U.S. and state departments of labor, these centers
offer free job search and career exploration, educational funding, vocational
resource section at careeronestop.org
3. Career and Job Fairs
Look for local opportunities to meet employers and recruiters face-toface,
usually listed on newspaper and community websites. Some job fairs
feature one employer with many openings. Other fairs include multiple
employers focused on a particular community, occupation, industry or school.
How to intentionally prepare for a career or job fair
Get and review the list of registered employers.
Identify and research the employers you want to meet.
Greet each employer of interest with a smile and handshake, while
Ask for a few minutes to talk about jobs of interest to you.
Be ready to give them your networking card and tell them what you
do best that matches the job you want.
Do not be surprised if you have an interview on the spot.
Ask for their business card and any literature they may have.
Ask for a follow-up meeting or phone call.
