
Types of Interviews
Not only are there many types of interviews, there are also may ways that they
may be conducted: by phone, in person, and online via live video conference or
by texting in a chat room.
Qualifying or Screening Interviews
These interviews are usually 15 minutes to one hour by telephone. Try to be
in a quiet place with no distractions. Have your resume and notes about the
employer and position at hand. You might stand and smile in order to increase
your energy and positivity.
If an interviewer calls without an appointment and you are not ready, ask for a few
minutes to call back or schedule another time. If an interviewer calls representing
an employer with which you have no contact or never heard of, beware of a
possible scam.
Qualifying interviews usually focus on basic minimum candidate criteria, such
until after you gain a better understanding of the job. You can ask questions, but
some screening interviewers may not know much about the job.
Behavioral Interviews
Interviews that include behavioral questions are often an hour or more and
can be conducted by phone, video conference or face-to-face. The interview
with phrases such as, “Can you tell me about a time when…?” or “Would you
describe a situation that…?”
The interviewer is not only exploring your accomplishments, but also your
personality traits, approach to problem-solving, communication abilities, your
values in action, and how you handle challenging situations.

to 60-seconds, so that the question and answer might become a conversation.
