to take with you to the interview that shows you are prepared.
Review homework suggested on workbook page 85. Put important information for
your reference in the folder such as...
• Date, time and directions to interview location
• Information about the employer and interviewer
• A one-page interview discussion guide
• Selected STAR stories
• Relevant assessments and samples of your work
• Extra copies of your resume
• Writing pad and pen
• Put employer name on tab of folder
Do not give the folder to the interviewer, but share, as appropriate, items from the
folder during the interview.
Practice interviewing with a friend or coach using questions on pages 93-96.
Rest and refresh. Eat right, exercise and get plenty of rest the day before.
Dress for success. Ask the employer about appropriate attire, which varies depending
on the organization and the job to be done. If you need a haircut, get it. Trim wild
hairs everywhere – ears, nose, neck and eyebrows. If you need new clothing, buy or
borrow them. If your clothes need cleaning, do it. Read, write and review the Dress
for Success devotional on page 101.
Never be late for an interview. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early. Leave yourself
twice as much time as you think you will need to get ready and get to the interview.
Double-check directions the day before the interview. Fill up the car with gas. Know
how much travel time it will take, where to park, how much it will cost. Lay out your
interview clothes, clean shoes and folder the night before. Set your alarm.
. Do not push the snooze button. Pray and get
going. Listen to music for inspiration – it’s game time! Shower and shave. Floss and
brush your teeth. Take breath mints. Comb or brush your hair. Do use deodorant.
Apply lighter versus heavier makeup. Wear little or no jewelry. Do not wear cologne
or perfume. Be sure you have everything you need. Check yourself in the mirror
before you leave.
When you approach the interview location, be aware that you might be seen by the
interviewer before the interview. Go to the restroom to make sure your hair is neat,
a smile on your face. Take a deep breath. Repeat in your mind “I can do all things
through Christ who strengthens me” from Philippians 4:13.
