Once your batting is trimmed, your block should look something
like this.

Lay your base fabric down, making sure to cover the placement
stitch completely.

Trim away any excess base fabric. Try to cut as close to the
stitches as you can.
Run your next machine step which will be the placement stitch for
your base fabric.
Run the tacking stitch on your machine to secure your base fabric
to your block.
With your base fabric tack down, your block is now ready for
some decorative stitches!
