PROJECT 112
Choosing the correct fabrics will make the designs pop!
CHOOSING FABRICS
For the Mini Halloween Quilts, we of course wanted to
use a Halloween theme. We were able to find the perfect
Halloween fat quarter bundle, and used a set of fabrics that
featured cute characters as well as seasonal geometric
prints. Next, we selected a variety of solid fabrics in shades
that complemented the printed fabrics. Cotton fabrics were
our choice, but a mixture of textures will work as well.
Since this project contains a folded fabric base for each
block, you can always check through your scrap for
inspiration, as the pieces are different sizes and meant to
be contrasting for the most pleasing visual effect. Each
quilt block also features appliqué, for which we used
cotton fabrics as well.
Once your fabrics are chosen, location is key. If you want to
make a bold statement with the blocks like we did, make sure
to place fabrics beside one another that contrast. For a more
muted look, consider different shades of the same tone.
Don't be afraid to try something shiny, felt, or even glow-inthe
dark fabrics (or threads!) to create a little more
spooky feel.
