Stitching Out Toile
& Sketch Work Designs
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
The beautiful Toile de Jouy designs included in this series have been digitized by
Wilson to replicate the stunning and whimsical style of traditional French toile
patterns. A penchant for the carefree and wild, Wilson used free flowing stitch
styles and experimented with thread types to replicate the traditional look of
these French countryside scenes.
In order to run these designs, you must first select a proper background option.
The sketched toile designs have been specially digitized to include placement and
tacking stitch steps for laying a base material, such as fabric, card stock, or even the
printed backgrounds provided in this series. Once secured, the longer, spaced out
stitch lengths prevent over-perforating the surface, and will give any design a look
of labored handiwork. Try stitching these designs in Wilson's thread of choice, or
select your own option for a unique look on these classic scenes. If choosing to
use fabric as the base of your toile, just be sure to apply a fusible interfacing to
the back of the fabric before starting in order to prevent any puckering or shifting.
