Stitching Out Drips
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Recreating these unique, drip-like embroidery designs is a technique that had not
been approached before Wilson set forth on developing his vision. Rows of lush
satin stitched threads meet their match when dipped into water, dissolving away their
supporting stabilizer. The resulting effect pulls these satin stitches down and open,
elongating the rows into tangling spirals of thread. Creating a drip design of your
own is as simple as selecting a series of thread colors to incorporate into the finished
piece. This particular technique is the ideal opportunity for helping tie together your
finished pieces on a wall collectively; you can select more or less of a specific hue
needing representation, or if you are in need of additional pops of accenting tones,
this design style creates the perfect presentation opportunity to do so.
To stitch out a drip design, you will need only a few key elements to start, including
three pieces of water soluble stabilizer hooped at one time. This will provide your
design some extra stability and resistance to the pulling that rows of satin stitched
thread will naturally create. Be sure to also keep a few extra bobbins close at hand in
the event you run low while the drip design is running.
