Using a pair of curved tip embroidery scissors, neatly trim
away the excess fabric from all 4 sides, being sure not to trim
through the tacking stitches.

Your design should then look something like this. Run the machine steps for the quilt stippling and any
embroidery steps for your design until you have run a
placement stitch for the first folded fabric border.
Run the tacking stitch, which secures the appliqué to
the design.
