INTRODUCTION | FUNDAMENTALS | 3
C CONFETTI
Small scraps of material, like thread
or organza, will get laid within a
placement stitch. A larger, sheer
cut of organza, tulle, or vinyl tacked
over top will help hold the bits in
place, creating a fun finished look.
SW SHADOW WORK
Base fabric or appliqués will
get muted out by covering
them with a layer of sheer
fabric or batiste. Bean stitches
then run over-top to help
emphasize the designs.
PF PRINTED FABRIC
These collections will include
printable PDF files that will be
either main elements or accents
in the design, specially digitized
to stitch directly over-top. An
inkjet printer will be required!
LS LANDSCAPE
This technique features multiple
horizontal appliqués that combine
to create a visual scene, or
landscape, within the design.
FF FOLDED FABRIC
This technique features 3 key
components: a placement stitch, a
folding stitch, and a tacking stitch.
You may see these folds appear
as the main design element, as
borders, or even in appliqués.
STANDARD
SA APPLIQUÉ
Whenever a design uses a
standard placement stitch and
tacking stitch to secure a piece
of fabric to your design, you’re
creating a standard appliqué.
WATERCOLOR
C CONFETTI
Similar to standard confetti,
watercolor traps material under a
larger piece, however watercolor
uses larger, organic-shaped cuts
of sheer organza to create the
painted effect.
