Before continuing with the next machine step, layer your
appliqué fabric right side facing up over the hi-loft batting,
ensuring the fabric is cut large enough to cover both the
batting and the placement stitch area below.
Your next machine step will be the special tacking stitch for
the appliqué. In Puffy Appliqué designs, the tacking stitch
step will first run a “spot-tack” around the shape, creating
shorter, 2-ply stitches to press down the edges of the
appliqué, followed by a standard tacking stitch. This way,
you don’t have to adjust the height of your presser foot!
Once tacked, trim away any excess material and batting.
NOTE: Trimming these layers one at a time can make the
cutting process easier!
