EXERCISE 1-2
The ability to plot and label a course line
with direction and distance is essential in
navigation, as it provides a direction by
which to steer, the distance to a position,
and a visual reference within the waters you
will be traveling.
The course line will allow the navigator
to identify any danger areas that
may need to be avoided. Course direction
should be to the nearest degree and course
distance to the nearest tenth of a mile. Use
the same sample chart for this exercise as
you used in Exercise I-1.
• Plot and label a course line from position

• Plot and label a course from position B to
position C and from position C to position

• Plot and label a course of 085º from position
A
• Plot and label a course of 164º from position
