Required Required Option 3 Below
but less than 164 ft (50m)
Option 1. The sidelights of a vessel under 65.6 ft
(20m) in length may be combined into 1 lantern carried
on the fore and aft centerline of the vessel.
Option 2. A sailing vessel under 65.6 feet (20 m) may
combine sidelights and sternlight into 1 lantern carried
near or at the top of the mast. This tri-color light is recommended
for vessels sailed offshore, because it will
be more easily seen. It must not be used when under
power.
Option 3. A sailing vessel underway, in addition to
sidelights and sternlight, may exhibit at or near the top
of the mast, an all-round red light over an all-round
green light. (These lights may not be used with the
combination lantern option.)
Option 4. If it is not practical for sailing vessels
under 23 feet (7 m) to exhibit sidelights and sternlights,
they may carry an electric light or lantern showing
a white light to be displayed in suffi cient time to
prevent collision.
