the dock. Slack in the
lines is necessary on fixed (vice
floating) docks to allow for
movement associated with tide
change and wake from passing
boats. If you are not familiar
with the marina, other moored
boats may provide example of
needed fenders and mooring
line slack. Brief the crew on
the mooring plan and procedure.
It is better to prepare
the mooring lines and place
fenders before the approach
to the dock, then when all is
ready approach slowly while
observing the effects of wind
and current.
