CONFETTI APPLIQUÉ - ANATOMY OF THE DESIGN
Now that you know how to complete Standard Appliqué, we can take that skill to a new level with confetti! Confetti Appliqué,
just as the name implies, looks like pieces of confetti held into your block. This technique involves using small pieces of
scrap fabric, cut up ribbon, yarn, thread, or anything else that can be safely placed under your embroidery needle. The loose
elements are then secured by a piece of organza, tulle, or other netting fabric to hold everything within the design element.
The confetti design is finished with a satin stitch and decorative stitches to seal the layer of organza to the quilt block.
Notes:
Satin Stitch: Seals the
confetti and organza, along
with giving the design a
clean embroidered edge.
Organza: The organza,
tulle, or netting you choose
is placed over the confetti
pieces and appliqué to seal
everything inside.
Confetti: You can choose to
incorporate ribbon, scrap
fabric pieces, and even thread
to give the design extra pop!
