QUILTING INTRO - CORNERSTONE METHOD
For blocks that include folded fabric, we at Anita Goodesign developed a system to make creating these even easier. The
Cornerstone Method clearly illustrates the order in which the fabrics are attached, and simplifies the repetitive fold technique.
It begins with an initial “cornerstone” fabric, which is laid down as a standard appliqué, and then proceeding into several
rounds of folded fabric, depending on the amount of folds in your design choice.
CORNERSTONE FABRIC: 2 APPLIQUÉ STEPS
Begin by running a Placement Stitch
for the cornerstone fabric. Then, place
your first fabric, print-side up, completely
covering the placement stitch.
The next step is a Tacking Stitch to attach
the cornerstone fabric. Any excess fabric
will be trimmed away.
SECONDARY FABRICS: 3 FOLDED FABRIC STEPS
With the cornerstone appliqué fabric
attached, the next fabrics will all be
secondary folded fabrics. Begin with a
Placement Stitch.
Lay the secondary fabric, right-side
down, covering the placement stitch
by approximately 1⁄4”.
Next will be the Folding Stitch.
Bring the fabric over the folding stitch.
Pull taut and give it a finger crease.
The third step is the Tacking Stitch.
Then trim away any excess fabric.
These 3 steps will then be repeated
for each remaining secondary fabric.
