PAPER PIECING APPLIQUÉ - ANATOMY OF THE DESIGN
The purpose of paper piecing is to provide a variety of fabric
patterns and colors into a design to make it more visually
interesting. When planning your design, try alternating fabric
colors or tones to have some contrast between folded fabric
pieces.
One of the more common mistakes in paper piecing (and
most folded fabric techniques) is failing to leave enough
fabric for your fold. When you place your fabric at the folding
stitch, you will want the fabric to fold taut over the line while
covering the placement stitches on all sides. Remember, this
is also when you check for any needed seam allowances
before cutting out the appliqué!
