STANDARD APPLIQUÉ - ANATOMY OF THE DESIGN
A general rule of thumb with standard appliqué is to match
the decorative satin stitch to the color of your appliqué fabric.
This creates a clean and uniform look to the appliqué by
finishing the edge in a consistent color.
Whenever you are trimming your appliqué fabric, it is
important to trim close to the tack down. If trimmed correctly,
the satin stitch, which is generally 4mm thick, will cover the
raw edge completely, giving a clean and crisp edge.
Failing to trim tight will result in pieces of fabric peeking out
of the finished edge, and can make your block look sloppy
and rushed, which is the opposite of what we want for our
finished quilt!
