CHOOSING YOUR BACKGROUND - ANATOMY OF THE DESIGN
CHOOSE YOUR BACKGROUND
You will start your new I Can Quilt block by choosing your background. You have the option of stippling, repeated background
designs, or a plain basic block. The basic block can be found in the Basic Block section of this curriculum, while the stippling
and background pattern options will conclude this section.
Each of these design groupings begin with steps for batting and your base fabric to give you the proper foundation for your
block. We add the batting into our designs for one simple reason: the batting makes all of the quilting stitches look quilted!
You will need the batting to add the dimension to the designs.
Next the pattern will follow, which will stitch from one edge of your base fabric to the other, both from top to bottom and left
to right. Since the block gets covered with your chosen design on all edges, this will give you the option of either adding
a folded fabric frame or choosing not to. Once you choose the background that you like, open the design in your machine
using the steps on the next page.
