DO!
FUSSY CUT BASIC BLOCK - ANATOMY OF THE DESIGN
DON'T!
In this example, however, we used the same fabric for the
fussy cut block, but rather than correctly identifying a focal
point, the fabric was cut with the bird located in the upper
left corner while leaves and floral patterns surround the
whole block's shape, loosing a point of focus or main design
element.
Keep in mind the point of fussy cutting is to selectively choose
what is featured in the block with only your fabric choice
since this block does not contain any decorative embroidery.
When choosing a fabric for a fussy cut block, it is ideal to
choose a fabric that has a design or print with some form of
object or feature that can act as a focal point, and then center
that item before cutting.
For example, in the fussy cut block above, the bird perched
on the branch was the focal point for this 9" x 9" fabric square.
We measured and marked the center points and sides with
pins, then cut the fabric to feature the bird.
