SHADOW WORK - ANATOMY OF THE DESIGN
Be sure to use a light-weight and thin fabric, such as this
Imperial Batiste, or even a slightly opaque organza. This
allows the decorative embroidery and appliqué elements
underneath it to stand out and create the muted colors.
Choose thread colors that are brighter or more bold to make
an impact in the overall design of your shadow work block.
Otherwise, once you apply the batiste, the tones will be so
soft that they become lost underneath the batiste.
Don’t forget to place your batiste down at the appropriate
step! Since there is no placement stitch for laying the batiste,
this could be easy to miss, and all of your muted accent
details will be lost if they are ran before the batiste is placed.
