BLANKET STITCH APPLIQUÉ - ANATOMY OF THE DESIGN
When choosing fabrics for your blanket stitch appliqué, the
best choice would be a fabric that will hold up over time and
resistant to unraveling. Generally, felts and knits do well with
this finishing stitch, but if you favor other fabrics or textures
for your appliqué, you can use a liquid seam sealant to help
prevent any unraveling.
For all of our blanket stitch designs, we chose lightweight
linens that cut away clean and had minimal fraying.
When blanket stitches are used on an appliqué, a general
rule of thumb is to match your thread to your fabric or pick
a tone that is close, that way it does not distract from the
entirety of the design.
Along with choosing the right thread, it is important to cut
close to the tack down, or else it will look carelessly trimmed.
