In these crazy quilt blocks, our fabrics
are all laid as standard appliqués.
Numbered bubbles on the design
pages will indicate the order that each
appliqué will get placed when making
your quilt block.
Piece by Piece
Inspired by the crackling glazes of Japanese art,
crazy quilts gained popularity in the ability to
make something beautiful out of the mundane.
The appeal to crazy quilt blocks lies in the
seemingly sporadic placement of appliqués and
thread colors creating a random effect, but with
intention behind the craziness!
With a variety of special stitch types, each block
will feature different decorative stitches over the
appliqué seams, adding a final touch of flair.
A QUILT FOR ALL
Crazy quilts began as a popular form of textile art
practiced by the more affluent individuals in the
urban and upper class societies. They would often
use scrap silks, lace, ribbons, and even velvet,
re-purposing the fabrics into magnificent wall
hangings and crazy quilt art. The patchy quilting
style eventually caught on to more rural and small
town areas when keeping families warm with left
over quilting scraps became both practical and
artistic. Made with simple appliqué and embroidery
over top, these blocks are sure to inspire a fun and
spontaneous side to your quilting practice!
