The technique of shadow work
originated as a hand embroidery
skill, creating a timeless look that
was appreciated by many. The
shadowed look was accomplished
by hand stitching embroidery floss
across the back of the fabric, creating
a “filled” look, while the top the
stitching featured a simple outline
over the shading.
This look has been recreated for your
embroidery machine by inserting a
placement step for a sheer piece of
batiste. Once attached to your block,
you’ll notice the bold underlying
color schemes emerge as soft pastels,
perfect for that heirloom or babythemed
