Choosing fabrics & Threads
fabric threads notions
The fabric in embroidered cards is
often the most overlooked feature,
but also one of the most important!
Without laying a base fabric, the
needle will perforate the design into
the card stock and your card is sure
to fall apart. Instead, opt for laying a
base fabric, patterned or not, after the
card gets tacked down.
Since the designs are created in bean
stitches, we chose a simple off-white
cotton for our card base to keep the
focus on the embroidery!
Your thread color choices will vary
from card to card depending on which
design you choose. Begin by selecting
a card design you want to create, then
work within that design to develop a
color palette. We can suggest bright
primary colors and darker accent
shades, and each card’s design steps
will indicate the Madeira thread we
chose to incorporate!
You can also modify your colors
for holidays or to coincide with the
receiver’s favorites, making every
stitch out one-of-a-kind!
Creating an embroidered card is
easier than you’d think! All you will
need is a good pair of scissors for your
appliqué trims, as well as some tape.
These cards are designed to be ran
on a Tear Away stabilizer and stitched
out on a medium weight card stock.
The standard 5” x 7” cards we used
in our stitch outs comes from Paper
Source, an online stationary and card
stock supplier. You can also choose
to cover your bobbin stitches with an
additional piece of card stock glued to
the back of your design.
