Folded Fabric + Appliqué
For folded fabric and appliqué collections, we
use the cornerstone method. The cornerstone
represents the first appliqué of a folded fabric
block. The rest are typically folded fabric, however
in this collection, some are folded and some are
treated as appliqué. Refer to the machine steps
and follow the numbered diagrams to make sure
you know which appliqué is folded fabric, and
which one is done normally.
Numbered bubbles will
indicate the order that the folds
following your Cornerstone
fabric will be placed.
Three Step Folding Process
To create your folded fabric pieces, your design will go
through a series of three steps for each fold. First, you
will get a placement stitch. This will indicate the full
space of where the fabric will need to cover, so use this
space plus any needed seam allowance to determine
your fabric strip sizes.
Second, you will get a folding stitch line down the
fabric strip. We will then fold the fabric over, give it a
crease, and run the third and final step, the tacking
stitch to secure your fold. Simply repeat this process
for each folded fabric piece.
The star indicates your Cornerstone
Fabric. This piece will be placed first
as a standard appliqué, while all
your secondary folded fabrics will
have the 3-step folding process.
