Run the tacking stitch, then trim away the excess fabric
within the batting, as shown.

The next machine step is the placement stitch for the first
folded fabric piece.
Next, place the fabric, right side down, overlapping the top
of the placement stitch.
TIP: If you place the fabric on the top placement stitch,
and overlap by at least 1/8,” you will not need to trim
excess fabric after the folding stitch.

Next, run the folding stitch.

Pull the fabric down and over the folding stitch, giving the
fold a good finger crease. Now, run the next tacking stitch
to hold it the fold in place.
Use scissors to trim away the excess fabric within the
block, remembering to leave any needed seam allowance
extending past the block’s edges.
